History

Cilla Cameron and Heather Ritchie We have been friends for many years, and we were neighbours for five years or more. It was while we lived next to each other that our mutual love of rug making developed and, since those early days, we have each followed our own rug making careers.

Our first Reeth Rug Retreat was held in 2000 at Marrick Priory near Richmond in North Yorkshire. 2011 will be the 12th anniversary of the school that now takes place at Grinton Lodge, also near Richmond.

"In the mid 90s we started to travel to rug schools in America, Canada and Australia, both as students and to teach. It was inevitable that we would decide to run our own rug school in England"

We invited Heather Lamborn from York to teach alongside us at our very first school in 2000. That year we had over 40 students taking part and they could choose from one of the three classes we offered.

The school has gone from strength to strength with teachers from Canada and America coming each year to take specialised rug making classes in subjects including Waldoboro rugs, animals, fine cut, folk art, Orientals, story rugs and more...
